History of Little Angels
Founded in 2004 by 5 mothers who recognised a need for local breastfeeding support. Little Angels was formed as a private limited company by guarantee. With an initial grant, Little Angels was commissioned to support the Sure Start programme with a primary purpose of supporting and promoting breastfeeding both antenatally and postnatally within the community of Blackburn with Darwen.
During 2007 Little Angels was developed into a Social Enterprise within the legal framework of a Community Interest Company to provide the most suitable method of developing Little Angels’ social strategic objectives. This includes recruiting local mothers to reflect the demographics of the communities we work within, ensuring true peer support which has proved to be the best method of support commissioned by Local Authority.
"support provided to over 20,000 mothers.."
Little Angels now employ over 100 staff and work with over 80 volunteers across the eight areas we currently work within. We have provided support to, in excess of 20,000 mothers and have facilitated over 1,300 community breastfeeding sessions.
We now offer a full range of services to continue to support, promote and protect breastfeeding through the antenatal stage, in hospitals and throughout the wider community.
